The One For Me

Hey everyone, here is a story I've worked on for months, but I've decided not to post to LIT. So I will post the entire story here on my blog. Please feel free to read it and share your thoughts with me.

Chapter 1

Ross Thompson

My name is Ross Thompson. I am the fifth born, and the third son of Bishop Robert Thompson and First Lady Evelyn Thompson.

Growing up in a church family is no easy feat, everything relates back to the bible, or gospel. If we kids wanted to get into anything, we had to prove it was wholesome.

My parents had seven kids and we were all actively involved in the church. Even when we didn’t want to, we were expected to be active members. I cannot recall a Sunday when we didn’t attend The Greater Harvest Pentecostal Apostolic Faith Church of Zion, GHPA for short.

We weren’t allowed to date any one that was not of the church. We could not go to dances, parties, or anything that played the devil’s music. None of us were allowed to go to prom. Our friends were screened, and if it was hinted that one of them went against the church’s teachings, our friendship was over.

My best friend growing up was a guy named Rory. We met in pre-K, and played together everyday at school.

Rory’s birthday was in early one April and he happily invited me to his party. I was so excited. I rushed home, my six year old heart bursting with gladness. “Momma, momma,” I yelled. “Can I go to Rory’s house for his party, please?” I begged.

Momma looked at me. Shaking her head she firmly answered. “Ross, no, you cannot go over Rory’s house. His family is not...” She stopped recognizing the look of total devastation on my face. I was only six and didn’t understand. I only knew Momma wouldn’t let me go.

She politely but firmly called Rory’s mom and explained to her that because of our religion, I couldn’t participate in any activities that played secular music, so although we were friends at school, I would not be able to go to his house for his birthday.

That night as she tucked me in bed, she explained why I could not go to my best friend’s party. “Now, Ross, I know you might not understand. But, Rory is not the type of little boy you need to be friends with. His family doesn’t serve God, well, not in the right way.

“But Momma, his family goes to church, too.” I tried to tell her.

“We can’t be around people that don’t believe in God the way that we do. You can be nice to him at school, but you cannot go to his house.” Momma finally stated. Then she held me for a while as I cried, and she left my room.

I didn’t understand. Momma said I couldn’t be friends with my best friend. That night, my heart was crushed. It wasn’t fair. It wasn’t right. I sobbed. Why couldn’t I go? He was my best friend. I don’t care what church he goes to. Silently, I cried myself to sleep.

The next day, Momma made sure she bought Rory a nice gift. She even bought me a toy robot I wanted, but I was still hurt. I wanted to go to that party.

I told Rory that I wasn't allowed to go to his birthday party because he didn't believe in God the way that we did. I could tell by the look on his face that he didn't understand it any more than I did but the thing that I remember the most was the look of hurt in his eyes. That look of hurt however, was replaced by a look of excitement when I handed him his birthday gift. It was as if the hurt of my revelation was never there.

We remained friends until he moved away. I remember the day that Rory told me that he was moving. My heart actually hurt. He had been my best friend and confidant and now I had no one. The day he left was probably one of the worst days in my short life. I remembered trying not to cry, to swallow the lump in my throat but I failed. The tears came and you know what? I didn't care. My brothers tried to cheer me up, but they didn’t get it.

Growing up was difficult for me. I fought with my brothers, argued with my sisters because I was so angry. I didn’t have any friends. No one wanted to be around me. Momma had so many dumb rules and I was always, always in trouble.

Overtime, I learned to sit when told, listen when grown folks were talking, and keep quiet unless I was asked to speak. Did I agree with everything they did? No, but to keep the peace, I went along whatever they came up with.

One day when I was in Junior High, after being teased all day, the anger that was seething inside me came to the surface.

You see, church people wore two faces. On one side they appeared caring and loving, always saying nice things to encourage others. But when they were away from the church, some of them were the meanest, most conniving people you’d ever meet.

My Dad had just been named Pastor of GHPA, and everyone in the family was expected to be actively involved in the church. I just wanted to be left alone. Mom wanted more and like always she pushed. I was fourteen, with out of control hormones, so I pushed back.

In a fit of anger and hurt, I told her what I thought of her so called holiness, and how she was only nice to people she liked. If they didn’t go to our church, she treated them like crap. I expounded upon her ill-treatment of my best friend. I simply told Mom how I felt.

She screamed for my Dad and he came into the room. My fist were clenched and drawn into my sides. My heart pounded. I inhaled a deep breath as fury consumed me. My eyes were filled with rage as I stared at the one person who was the target for my ire. I just had to get the feelings off of my chest.

Dad stepped in. He stood between Mom and me, effectively blocking her from my view. “Go to your room, Now! Ross.” He ordered in a calm voice. I’ve never been more afraid than I was in that moment. I looked at my father. I was frustrated, tired, and hurting. I wanted to scream at the injustices that were being done, but I said nothing. I simply stood and walked to my room barely holding in the tears of defeat that threatened to fall.

Both parents followed me to my room and walked in. Dad told Mom to leave the room, but she wanted to see him to beat my behind; he told her he would handle the situation. So, she finally left. He didn’t yell just stood silently. My heart pounded as I began to sweat. I stood stoically waiting.

Dad looked at me and shook his head as if he was tired and then finally spoke, He told me he understood and we talked. He also told me if I ever disrespected his wife, my mother again, I’d need to find someplace to live because I would no longer be welcomed in his home. That was the first and last time, I ever talked back to Momma.

After talking to him, I realized that silence was golden. Mom would tell me what she wanted, and I’d just do it.

One day at school, I was in gym when the football coach asked me about trying out. Normally church kids didn’t join teams, so I was surprised at first. The next day, I stayed after school to try out. We didn’t have service or practice, so I could get home a little late as long as I explained my whereabouts.

The other players seemed to dislike me on sight. “Hey church boy, we aren’t thumping any bibles out here.” One guy called, while the other players who were just as condescending jeered and taunted me also. Coach told me to play left tackle guard. This made me happy because the guy I was facing was the first guy to taunt me, and I took him down.

I had to stay late a few more times, but I explained to my parents why. They both wished me luck and after a couple of weeks of getting beat Coach presented me with a jersey and told me that I’d made the team. That day I went home and excitedly told my family about my accomplishments.

Dad was excited. He cleared his schedule to make sure he came to my games. Being with the guys on that team was the first time since I was little that I felt normal. The team was close, but I knew my education was extremely important. We played games, practiced, hung out at school, but where my teammates partied on weekends. I was studying.

I managed to earn all of the required credits to graduate by my junior year in high school. I even graduated with my older siblings, Carl and Carla. Everyone was so happy. My parents were a little worried about paying for all of us to go to theology school. Carl and Carla planned to go to theology school and become minsters. I wanted to go to university.

At first, my Mom was against me going to University, but my Dad talked to her. Eventually, they told me if I could find scholarships, I could go.

At that point, I presented both parents with my scholarship packages. They both hugged me and told me they were so proud of me.

I left home and went to University. Four years later, I graduated top of my class with a degree in Finance. I had secured a job at a firm in the city. We traveled there, Dad and me, two weeks before graduation. He wanted to help me secure an apartment and see where I would be working.

Once we got to the office, he saw an old friend of his and he seemed relieved that he knew someone at the company.

The first Saturday in August was the day that I moved to the city. I was twenty years old, in a strange city, and knew virtually no one except a few of the people whom I was affiliated with through church.

For the first time in my life, I felt alone. Alone is the worst feeling a person can have. It didn’t last, because soon I reported to work and that’s when I saw her. The most amazing creature God has put on this earth, Annalise Rainer.

Annalise Rainer

I am Annalise Rainer, Anna to most. I have parents, not sure if they wanted a kid, but they ended up with me.

My Mom is not what you would call nurturing, so she made sure I was independent from birth. I have had to basically take care of myself since I was little. My Dad was a little better than Mom, just not as much.

As a little girl, I did everything I could to get my parents’ approval. I made straight A’s, painted, played piano, and even tried to join social groups, but no one liked me and I had a hard time making friends. I even tried to impress my parent’s friends with my intelligence and abilities, but that only seemed to annoy them even more.

My earliest memory with my parents is when I was five. Mom, who is a scientist, decided to have my IQ tested. They learned that I was well advanced for my age, and because of this my parents had me skip kindergarten and move to first grade.

The first day they took me to school, I was terrified. My heart pounded so loud that it seemed as if it was about to leap from my chest, as I shook uncontrollably. I reached for my Dad’s hand and he held my hand tightly. For a moment, I felt calm. Then my mother looked at us, and he let my hand go, suddenly. I gasped when he let me go. Didn’t he know I was small and afraid. How could he just let me go like that? I wondered not understanding why he let go. They walked me to my classroom and introduced me to my teacher.

She greeted me and seemed nice and then told me to have a seat at anyone of the tables that I wanted to sit at.

Nervously, I walked to the red table and sat down looking back at my parents hoping this once they’d comfort me in some way. Dad looked over at me and smiled. I smiled back, praying they wouldn’t leave me again. However, they had a few words with the teacher and then quickly left. They didn’t even give me a hug goodbye, or a kiss. I was crushed; my five year old heart was broken.

As I grew older, I learned not to expect too much from them. We didn’t hug in my family. We told each other I love you on occasions. We were just not very affectionate. But I knew that deep down, my parents loved me.

I graduated high school at the age of fifteen, and started college at sixteen.

I applied to University and my parents granted permission for me to attend. Because of my age, I could not live on the campus until I was older, so we had to arrange transport. While I was on campus, I was assigned a counselor whose main job was my supervision.

I had no friends and was so alone, but I was used to fending for myself. Most of the time, I would read. The college students were much older and many felt uncomfortable around me so most of them just left me alone; however, a few bullied me.

The next year when I turned seventeen, my parents had to travel to Armenia in Asia. I was allowed to move on campus for the next two years and I attended both regular sessions as well as any extra sessions that were offered. By the time I turned nineteen, I was graduating from college.

My department was hosting a dinner to honor all of the sponsors that gave donations to the school. It was at this dinner that I met Mr.Smith and his wife. They seemed nice and really enjoyed talking to me.

One of my instructors told Mr. Smith about my work and the fact that I was the youngest person to graduate from University with a degree in Finance.

Mr. Smith was impressed. My love for numbers helped me secure a position at his company.

He and his wife offered me the chance to visit them in the city and to interview for a job in his company. Of course, I went and love it there.

My parents accompanied me, per his request. I don’t think he liked my parents. They weren’t rude, just uninterested. Mr. Smith and his wife weren’t used to people like my parents. The Smiths had three children and the lack of interest my parents showed in me seemed to disturb them.

So, at nineteen, I was moving from my parents’ home to an apartment in the city and started working. Did I make my parents proud? Hmm! I don’t know, but I like to think I did. They did come to my graduation and my father hugged me as he cried.

My mother even accompanied me to the city and helped me find an apartment. She was determined that I find a place in a safe neighborhood. We talked during this visit and I understood my Mom a little better.

“I am so proud of you, Annalise. I know I don’t say it often, but you are a special young woman and I am honored to be your mother.” Brenda Rainer told her daughter, Anna, as they drove to the city.

Anna basked in her mother’s praise. She loved when she spent time with her mother, because it gave her a chance to just get to know her better.

“Momma, I love you. You know that right.” Anna told her mother softly.

Brenda laughed. “Anna you mean everything to me. I never thought I’d be a mother, but I was blessed with you.” Sighing Brenda continued.

“I know I didn’t hug a lot when you were growing up, but I love you.”Brenda explained.

“Growing up in the deep south, I didn’t like hugs. The men in my family…well, that’s history. When I met your father, and he hugged me the firsttime, I hit him. I thought he was trying to do something to me. It took years, and even now, I don’t like hugs.

I didn’t mean to not hug you, I just…” looking carefully at Anna, “I’m sorry, I am like this , but I love you Anna, even if I have a hard time showing it.”

Anna gasped, “Momma, were you molested? Is that why you don’t like touching?”

Lost in a memory, Brenda shook, shuttering at an awful memory, “Yes, it as so long ago. When I tried to tell Momma about Uncle Dan, she didn’t believe me at first. Then one night he snuck in my room and granddaddy caught him. Boy, was he angry. He screamed and he and Daddy took Uncle Dan outside.

His wife, Aunt Sally said I caused it, but Momma told her it wasn’t my fault. They stopped speaking and Momma never talked to me about it.

Uncle Dan, Aunt Sally and their son moved away soon after and never came back.

You know Annalise, I was lucky. A lot of girls weren’t lucky at all because their abusers never got caught. When my parents moved, I never had to worry about that happening to me again.” Brenda explained.

“Momma,” I cried softly. “ I am so sorry someone… Thank you Momma for keeping me safe. ” Anna whispered as she gripped Brenda’s hand in hers.

I was stunned, because Momma never mentioned her childhood to me before. I was also angry, Her parents should have protect her. She was not to blame and to think that someone could blame her, Arg! But, Momma is strong woman and she survived. I am so proud of her.

We arrived at my new place and Momma and Daddy made sure I was moved in. Having learned what I had, I really didn’t want them to leave.

They informed me that they would cover my expenses for a few years, after that I would be completely responsible for myself. It was important to them that I be able to care for myself. Soon after that, their cab arrived, Dad looked at me and hesitated. For the first time since I was little, Mom hugged me and told me she loved me. I held my mother close and wanted to beg them not to leave me again, but I knew it would serve no purpose. After a heartfelt farewell, I stood and watched as they left for the airport.

A feeling of loneliness and despair engulfed my entire being as I stood on the sidewalk after they left. Although, I understood a little better, understanding did not replace my need for them. I don’t remember how long I stood on the sidewalk staring in the direction that the cab had taken my parents away from me yet again. But, eventually, I walked back to my apartment and sat for a moment.

I touched my cheek and realized that I’d been crying. A feeling of utter despair and loneliness engulfed me as I lay on my sofa and allowed myself a moment of weakness.

Then, my doorbell rang. I peeked out and saw the Smiths. “Just a minute.” I called out and went to clean my face.

When I let them in, Mrs. Smith embraced me immediately and told me I was going to be Ok. They would take care of me. Mr. Smith made me some tea and the older couple comforted me while I cried and then invited me to dinner with them and their daughters.

Their daughters, Farrah and Kelly, were older than me and at home visiting from college, but they became my two best friends.

Because of my age, nineteen, Mrs. Smith insisted that I work in her husband’s office. So he assigned me to the position in his office as his personal assistant.

Since I had a degree in Finance, they placed me on entry level pay which was a bit more than a personal assistant usually made. He and his wife were adamant that I return to college for advanced degrees. So I had to take online classes as well as work fulltime.

Before long, I had worked for the Company a few months and November came around. I was about to turn twenty. I knew my parents would call and wish me a happy birthday, because they always called. Imagine my shock when Mrs. Smith demanded that I join them for dinner. Mr. Smith made sure I attended because he drove.

When we arrived at their house all of the lights were off. “Hmmm, strange.” Mr. Smith mumbled to himself. “I’m sure Majorie will be back soon. She must have gone to the store. Come in and have a seat in the family room.” He offered.

I walked in and jumped as everyone leaped out of hiding and yelled.”SURPRISE, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Farrah, Kelly and Ross planned this for me. No one had ever done something like this for me before.

Wow! I was so shocked. A party for me! Wow! I can’t remember the last time someone, anyone, celebrated my birthday. I felt special in that moment, as if I mattered. The smile that came across my face magnified the enormity of emotions that were cascading inside of me at that moment in time.

I was so overwhelmed that I almost could not open the gifts they bought me. While attending my party, Mom and Dad called to wish me a happy birthday as well. Momma said they were returning to the states in December and couldn’t wait to see me. That phone call and the kindness extended to me by the Smiths still warm my heart today.

I had worked at the Company for over a year then, one day the most amazing man walked in. He was tall, handsome, and brawny. I was entranced and for a while could not take my eyes off of him. Then once I remembered where I was, I took control of my raging hormones and forced myself to focus on my job.

Preach 2

On the weekends when she didn’t have to work, he would always walk over and invite her to join him for breakfast. When Clay would show up at her doorstep on Saturday morning, Mysha felt a smile start deep down inside of her. She looked forward to spending a few minutes with him, but was apprehensive about joining him for breakfast so early in his home.

So whenever he invited her to breakfast, she’d always refused. He took her refusals in stride even though they made her more appealing to him.

He invited her to the church. She’d refuse. He’d invite her to social functions and she’d refuse. He talked to her at least once every day the first four months.

Once he realized she worked at the coffee shop, he came by to chat with her every morning. He seemed completely oblivious to the way certain members of his flock looked at her.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mysha would watch him and admire his fantastic body. It was hard to believe he was a minister. He was so fine. He stood a little over six feet tall, with broad shoulders, a firm six-pack abdomen, and thick muscular pythons that she imagined would encase the woman he held in a tight embrace.

He was fair with his blond hair cut short so that it showed off his incredibly amazing face. Personally, she liked his hair long, because it curled around his neck. His clear grey eyes sparkled whenever she saw him. With his perfect face, perfect skin, and perfect body, Mysha was not surprised to see the single females at his church constantly making excuses the stop by his house.

Well, time’s up. Stop ogling preacher man,Mysha thought. Some of us just aren’t chosen. Hmmm.Mysha then got dressed for her first job of the week, barista at the coffee shop.

“Good morning, welcome to Sunshine Coffee. How may I help you?” Mysha greeted her twentieth customer of that morning. That customer ordered a chilled mocha with a ham and cheese roll. Mysha completed their order.

The customer collected their order a headed to their table. The next customer stepped forward and Mysha started with the standard greeting. “Good morning, welcome to Sunshine Coffee. How may I help you?”

“You can join me for dinner, Mysha. Do you work tonight?” Clay asked smiling at her as he stepped up in line.

Mysha’s heart slammed in her chest. “Pastor Richards, you don’t need to be seen out with me. What would your parishioners think?” she said as she smiled coyly.

Clay smiled, Damn, why is he so damn cute? Fuck, and he knows it.

He knew she found him attractive and watched him when he did yard work. Honestly, he hated yard work, but he worked in the yard just to see his gorgeous neighbor.

Clay liked black women. He always dated black women and Mysha was exactly his type.

Whenever he saw her, he smiled. Her presence always made his day just that little bit better. She was his vision of a perfect woman.

Clay looked confused and the he chuckled, “What, are you not human? I just want to have dinner with a lovely young woman.”

“Pastor, if I went out with you, I’d want more than dinner. And you’re a man of God, so I’d corrupt you. Therefore, I must say no. Ask one of the girls in your church out. Now what would you like to order?” Mysha smiled as she asked.

Clay smiled back. He loved her spunkiness. He knew that he wasn’t supposed to date a nonbeliever, but God made everyone right and he was given free will. He wanted to get to know Mysha.

“Ok, well, we will see,” he smiled and winked at her. “A large coffee with three sugars and some French vanilla creamer. Also add a Bear claw. Thanks.”

Mysha fixed his order and collected the payment. She thanked him and moved on to the next customer.

“Good morning, Pastor Richards. How are you this morning Sir?” Mother Williams from the church greeted him.

“Good morning, Mother Williams, fancy meeting you here this early.” Clay returned her greeting.

“Oh, Mother Thomas has a doctor’s appointment and I’m driving her. She can’t eat before her appointment, so I am just having breakfast before I pick her up.” She explained.

“Is she well? I wasn’t aware that she was having issues.” Clay stated looking concerned.

“No, Pastor, she’s doing well. It’s just routine visit. You’ll see when you’re our age.” Mother Williams chuckled.

Mysha laughed at something a customer said drawing the attention of Clay and Mother Williams.

Mother Williams saw him talking to her earlier and knowing the girl’s history with the church, she didn’t think the pastor being friendly with her was a good idea. Although Mother Williams liked Mysha and wished she felt welcomed at the church. She realized that with the way she’d been treated, Mysha might never want to return to the church. The new pastor had no idea of what happened with this girl a few years earlier so she would talk to Deacon Brother Jones and have him approach the pastor.

Clay bid Mother Williams a good day, took a moment to look at the object of his desire, and then left the shop. After reporting to his job at a local insurance company, he decided to pursue his lovely neighbor.

Clay didn’t get much work done because his thoughts kept drifting to a certain gorgeous young woman. Dark chocolate brown skin, long black hair, deep dark brown eyes that sat in a face that reminded one of a young hot Gabriella Union, she stood five feet eight inches tall. He was six two himself and he loved a woman that matched his height. Mysha was amazing. She seemed to be a healthy size eight. He longed to fondle her ample breast, kiss her supple lips, and hold her curvaceous frame against his chest.

Many people thought just because he was a minister that he didn’t have amorous thoughts about women. They were wrong. He studied the bible and believed in its teachings but he was also a realist. Men and women were put on this earth to attract each other, and he was not a monk.

He knew Mysha watched him, but what she didn’t realize was that he watched her just as intently, if not more. She was a very attractive woman.

Clay knew that Mysha worked two different jobs and went to school at night. He felt that she took on too much. Clay wanted to find a way to be a part of her life. So he made it his mission to get one Mysha Knicks to give him a chance.

************************************************************”

“Pastor Richards,” head Deacon Jones was speaking, “Mother Williams said she saw you at the coffee shop talking to that girl this morning. Now we know you’re concerned about all of the people in the city, but you can’t mix with people that aren’t of the church.”

Clay looked at the elderly gentleman before him. As his elder, he would show him respect, but he did not have the right to tell him who he could and could not associate with.

“Deacon Jones, I appreciate your advice, but you will not tell me who I can and cannot associate with. If I want to speak with Mysha, I will.” Clay smiled and softened his tone. “Deacon Jones, if we don’t talk to unbelievers, how will we get them to come to the church? We have to communicate with people.”

Deacon Jones looked penitent. The new young pastor had never spoken to him so harshly before, and he did have a point, the members needed to talk to people if they wanted to increase church membership.

“Pastor, you are right and I apologize.” stated Deacon Jones immediately feeling contrite. “We’ve been charged to spread the gospel and you were just doing that. I’ll talk to Mother Williams.”

“Thank you, Deacon.” Clay smiled and placed his hand on the older man’s shoulder to reassure him that all was well. “You know what, maybe you could get with Mother Williams to organize an event for one weekend where we can invite the people in the neighborhood to visit our church.

They won’t want to come if they don’t feel welcome. And if they don’t come, how can we spread the word?” Clay asked.

He knew organizing events was something his two elder members loved doing. Maybe they would invite Mysha and she would see the church in a different light.

Deacon Jones perked up. He’d wanted to do something like this for the longest, but the other members frowned on mixing with people who were not members of the church. He felt that now that the Pastor suggested it, it might come to fruition.

Deacon Jones smiled and went to his office to call Mother Williams immediately and tell her about Pastor Clay’s idea.

Clay thought about his elusive neighbor, and decided he’d invite her to church again. He had invited her before, but she always refused for one reason or another. He realized that something happened when Pastor Black led the church, but he wasn’t quite sure what. Tonight, he’d invite her out and try to find out what happened.

Clay sat in his living room waiting anxiously for Mysha to arrive home from her second job. She usually made it home around five thirty, but today she was late. It was a little after six when she walked up her driveway from the bus stop.

Moving slowly, shoulders slumped, with her head down, Mysha walked onto her front lawn seemingly dejected. No signs of the young energetic woman from earlier in the day. Clay watched helplessly recognizing that she was truly exhausted. Knowing she worked two jobs, he wanted more than anything to do something help alleviate her stress.

He got up and rushed outside, calling to her before she reached her front door..

“Mysha, hello.”

She turned around and greeted him with a weary smile.

“Hey Clay,” She waited briefly for his response before turning to head on into the house to put on her sweats and veg out in front of her television.

“Mysha wait, I was about to go out for some supper.” Clay said stopping her again. “Join me. It will be my treat.” He stated sheepishly.

“That’s so nice, but you’re ready to go. I need to shower, find something to wear, and then dress. It would take too long, maybe next time, alright.” Mysha kindly declined his invitation.

Even though she spoke in a calm voice, her heart was pounding.

“I don’t mind waiting. Take your time. I’ll be sitting right here on my porch.” Clay said.

Smiling Mysha hurried into her house to get ready as her sheer tiredness from earlier seemed to evaporate. Stripping as she rushed into her shower, she was elated to be joining him. As the hot water sprayed over her body washing away the tensions of her day, Mysha wondered briefly what, if anything, did this mean. Was he really interested in her or just being neighborly?

Mysha smiled and was excited as she dressed for her date. Date? Was this a date? Wanting to look nice for him, but not showing it Mysha selected a pair of black slacks with a baby doll top with small floral print. Deciding to accessorize, she added a golden chain she’d gotten from her mother with matching golden stud earrings. Finally she put on a pair of black pumps to complete her outfit.

Instead of applying her makeup heavily like she normally did, Mysha decided to keep it simple and going with a much lighter application and a touch of lipstick. She then dabbed perfume on her wrist. After she finished dressing, she checked herself in the mirror to make sure she looked alright. Grimacing at her appearance she felt like she looked almost like a proper young church woman.

Clay was patiently when her door opened. He stood transfixed as Mysha walked out dressed in such a demure way. Her true beauty radiated from her as he took in her amazing frame. She was simply perfect and he was overjoyed that she was willing to spend time with him. The woman was beautiful and that was a simple fact. As she walked from the door to his house, Clay hurriedly rushed to his the car to open the passenger door for her.

Mysha thanked him shyly, her heart pounded so hard, the sound was deafening as she quickly climbed into the passenger seat. Clay closed her door and moved quickly to the driver side and got it. Once he climbed in, he simply looked at her.

He wondered if she could hear the beat of his heart as it raced in his chest at the sight of her. He took note of the fact she was breathing rapidly as well as briefly wondered if she was as nervous as he.

Clay took a deep breath to try to get control his body and its reactions to his wonderful companion.

“Mysha, thank you for joining me tonight. You have no idea how much this means to me.” He whispered as he cranked the car to head to the restaurant. He always knew what to say to her to help her relax. Just that small statement really calmed her and she looked at him. He had no idea of the effects he had on her.

Mysha smiled. That was one things he liked about Clay. He was always a gentleman.

“So, Clay,” Mysha asked. “Where are we going tonight?”

Clay looked over to his lovely companion and smiled. “Applebee’s or Chilli’s, you choose.”

Smiling Clay drove them one of the local restaurant for dinner. When they arrived he parked the car and asked her to wait. They entered Applebee’s together and were immediately seen by a few members of Clay’s congregation.

Mysha stiffened when she saw them watching her. She was afraid, and felt as if she shouldn’t be out with Clay. Clay felt her freeze up, but didn’t understand why. So he gently placed his arm around her waist and carefully pulled her body into his.

Spying and empty booth near the back of the dining room, Clay led Mysha to the table. She was tense and he was concerned. She seemed fine in the car; what was causing this anxiety? Eventually the waitress came and they ordered their drinks.

Before the drinks arrived, the couple that saw them walked over to speak. “Pastor Richards fancy seeing you here. And who is this lovely young lady?” Elder Samuel Green greeted them.”

Standing and shaking his hand, Clay smiled proudly, “Elder Green, Mother Green, how are the both of you? I know you both know Mysha Knicks. She’s my neighbor.” He proudly introduced his date to the other couple.

“Mysha, it is so nice to meet you.” Elder Green greeted her warmly.

“Hello, Elder and Mother Green,” Mysha spoke so meekly they could hardly hear her.

Mother Green smiled warmly at the young woman, “Mysha, it is so nice to meet you as well. We’re going to get out of your hair. Samuel, let’s go and let these young people enjoy their dinner.” She told her husband catching his arm as she dragged him away from the table.

“You’re right dear. Pastor, don’t forget we have a meeting in two weeks. See you then. Mysha, it was nice meeting you. You two enjoy your evening.” Bishop Green stated finally before the older couple left.

Clay was concerned and wanted to make sure his companion was alright.

“Hey, Mysha! What happened? Are you alright?” he queried, worry creasing his brow.

He didn’t like the look of apprehension that crossed her face when the older couple approached them.

She forced a smile, “I’m fine. Can we just eat and not talk about what just happened?”

After ordering their drinks, Clay smiled at her causing her heart to skip a beat. He decided to break the ice, “See, I knew I’d get you to go out on a date with me.”

Mysha laughed. She sighed as she felt the tension leave her body, “Yea, you did. This is nice Pastor, thanks.”

“Don’t, Mysha. I don’t want a title tonight. Please call me by name, Clay. Tonight, can we just pretend to be two regular people.” Clay implored.

“OK. You got it, Clay.” Mysha said, tongue in cheek. “I always respect my elders. You are almost twenty years older than me, right. Besides, your hair is turning gray at the temples.”

Clay laughed out loud at her words. He liked this playful, teasing side of her. She always made him smile. He knew he was older than her and hoped his age wouldn’t be a problem. “Really, how old do you think I am?” he asked chuckling at her response.

Mysha started to answer, but the waitress brought their drinks and took their orders. After she made a quick exit, Mysha answered his query.

“Well” Mysha answered smiling. “You’ve got to be at least forty. I mean, you are a preacher and you’ve been one for a long time.

“Really! That old. Close, but not quite that old.” Clay replied smiling at her. “I’m thirty-five.”

“Only thirty-five, nice!” Mysha declared. “How old were you when you became a minister?”

“I was twenty-four, when I became ordained. However, when I turned twenty-five, that was when I made a vow and truly committed my life to the church.” Clay explained.

“Oh!” Mysha looked pensive for a moment. “Why did you decide to go into ministry?”

“You can say it just happened.” Clay explained. “I was taking classes and decided to audit a class called Theology in 12BC. One day in class and I was hooked. I registered and decided to go into ministry.”

Mysha was awed. She was twenty-four and admired his drive and determination. Working two jobs, Mysha wished she knew what she wanted to do. “Wow, you knew what you wanted to do at my age. Hmm! I’m just trying to make it. I do want to go back to school though, maybe become a teacher.”

Clay realizing that this was one thing he could do for her, cheered silently, his heart racing at the idea of providing her with some type of support. “Really, Mysha, that’s great. I would love to help you with that. You know the church offers scholarships. I’ll get some information to you about them.” The waitress brought their appetizers and refilled there drinks.

Mysha smiled a beautific smile, “Wow, Clay. You would do that? Thank you.” She whispered. Watching as many subtle emotions play across his face, honestly, she just loved watching him.

“ You’re welcomed.” Clay realizing she was watching him closely blushed. “OK, I’ve talked too much; I’ll stop tell me about you.”

“Well, I grew up in Blaine and lived there until my Mom died six years ago.” Tears gathered in her eyes at the memory. She continued, feeling the pain the same as it was over six years ago. “After she died, I got a job at the hospital and moved to Gospel. My mom’s friend knew a guy that had houses for rent and he let me rent the small house I’m living in now.” Mysha explained.

“How old were you when you lost your Mom?” Clay asked curiously.

“Eighteen, it was hard, but I survived. The people at your church helped until…” then she dropped the subject.

“Until what?” Clay queried.

“Nothing Clay, remembering my Mom is always hard for me. Can we talk about something else?” Mysha asked.

“So you used to go to church. I know something happened. Will you please talk to me about it? Maybe I can convince you to come back.” Clay stated.

At this point their meal had arrived and they ate dinner.

After eating dinner, they were stuffed and decided to skip dessert. Clay collected and paid the ticket, and they left the restaurant. They walked to his car joking about the intense run Clay would have to do to burn tonight’s calories.

Being ever the gentleman, Clay opened her car door for her and helped her inside.

Clay looked over at his lovely young companion, “You are so young and beautiful. ThinkingI am too old for her. She’ll never see me as more than a preacher.

“Clay, I’m glad I joined you tonight. This was fun. I like you… I mean really like you, but I know I’m not the kind of girl you would date, so…” Mysha looked out of the window cursing herself for talking to much. Clay was a nice man and he offered her dinner simply because of the fact he was nice. She needed to get over this crush she had on him.

Clay reached across the seat and grasped her hand, lifting it to his lips, he gently kissed her knuckles. Her breath caught, as her heart slammed in her chest. The touch of his skin against hers made her body warm and she wondered if he could sense her arousal.

When Clay grasped her hand and kissed her knuckles, his cock hardened. The slightest movement, touch, or even sigh from this girl set him off. He knew who he was and realized that his vocation aside, he’d never stand a chance at such a beautiful and vibrant young lady.

Her heard her sigh when he kissed her hand, noticed that she unconsciously rubbed her thighs together signaling her arousal, and for an instant he wanted to explore.

He took control of his errant thoughts as he saw their houses come into view. Stopping in front to Mysha’s house, he got out to open her door.

“Clay, don’t be silly.” Mysha told him as he held the door for her. “I can walk from across the street,” Mysha concluded.

“Mysha, I want to do this right. Call it the old man in me. Let me walk you to your door.” Clay said.

After he walked her to the door, he kissed her on the forehead. “Thank you Mysha for keeping this “old man” company. Sleep well.” He then stood until she went inside and secured he door. After that he drove across the street and into his garage.

The next morning, Clay saw Mysha leaving to walk to the bus stop. He was just getting back from his morning run.

“Hey, Mysha. How are you this morning?” He asked.

She loved looking at him. Standing there wearing a sweat soaked athletic t-shirt and running pants, that accentuated the sinewy muscle of his body, she could not help but admire the view. His golden hair was drenched and hanging just above his shoulders. She longed to simply walk over to him run her fingers through his hair, pull his mouth to hers, and kiss him until she forgot her own name.

But she didn’t move, just answered his query politely. “Good morning, Clay. I’m fine. Did you have a nice run?”

“It was nice, refreshing even.” Clay replied.

“Well, I’ve got to go. My bus will be here in a few. Bye Clay. I’ll see you later.” Then, she left for work. He wished her a great day and then proceeded to go in is house to get ready for his day.

As usual, he stopped by the coffee shop and teased her. He even invited her to come to bible class that evening, but Mysha had to work so she declined his invitation. That evening he had to teach bible class and missed seeing her come home.

Time passed and each morning the two neighbors greeted each other before Mysha went to work. Clay was busy working on some claims at his firm, so he didn’t stop by the coffee shop as often as he had previously done.

Although she’d never tell anyone, Mysha missed sparring with him in the morning. Deciding to do something to take her mind off of the delectable minister, she made plans to go out clubbing with some girlfriends.

Clay missed chatting with Mysha just as much, but he was concerned about his age, and whether she’d really want to spend time with him, and other silly things. However after not seeing her for over a week, Clay decided to speak with her Friday night and see if they could spend Saturday together.

He had an important meeting Saturday morning, but the rest of his day was free. He retired to his study to wait for his young sexy neighbor.

Friday evening arrived, and Clay was waiting for Mysha to come home again. However, she was late and he missed her because he had to take an important phone call. Before long, he heard a car horn and realized that Mysha was going out with her friends, so he would talk to her the next morning before he went to his meeting. He looked out of his window to see who was picking her up.

Mysha came out of her house wearing the tiniest outfit imaginable. Clay throat froze as he watched her leaving feeling annoyance and anger at her choice of dress. He hated when she dressed like that because she was beautiful and shouldn’t expose herself in that way. She hopped in the car with her friends, laughing loudly, as they drove off.

Clay didn’t want her to go out clubbing and socializing with the girls she befriended, however he had no rights where she was concerned. She was a free woman and could make her own choices, besides even if he tried to talk to her about it, it would probably make him seem older than he really was. He went into his study to prepare the sermon he would deliver on Sunday.

Hours passed, and Mysha still had not returned home. Clay began to worry. Where is she? It’s after two in the morning and she should have been back by now.

Suddenly, Clay heard a commotion outside. Looking out of the window, he saw a much disoriented Mysha staggering to her house being helped by a man he had never seen before.

He saw the guy try to kiss her and she pushed him away. His heart jumped into his throat as he watched the man attempted to force himself on her. Clay grabbed his robe in haste, threw it on, and headed towards the unsuspecting couple.

"Preach"

Hey,

I am working on a new set of stories that I found to have an interesting concept.

I find that I like writing. It frees your mind and allows me to escape in a world of my imagination.

Here is a small snippet of one of the stories I am working on.

Let me know if you like it. If you don't, tell me. I really valu your opinion.

Preach

Mysha watched Clay work in his yard as she did every morning since he moved in over a year ago and became the new minister at the church. Mysha hated the fact he was a minister, because in the town of Gospel there were two classes of people: Saints and Heathens.

Clay, in all of his blond glory, was a Saint. He followed the straight and narrow path. Every morning he would go for a jog. Returning home to pray in the alcove in this living room Mysha knew this because from her living room, she could see clear through the front of his house. After praying for twenty to thirty minutes, he would disappear in his bedroom and the come out dressed usually in dark slacks with a crisp white shirt.

Where Clay was a Saint, Mysha was definitely a Heathen. She didn’t attend church. Went out and partied with her friends. Wore the most provocative outfits she could create whenever, she was out to have a fun time.

Most of the time Mysha dressed normally, she’d wear jeans, t-shirts, or maybe a work uniform depending on the day of the week.

Weekends were a whole new deal and she loved to wear comfortable sweats and tees. She usually had Saturday mornings off and this gave her plenty of time to watch her gorgeous neighbor.

Mysha remembered when he moved in two summers ago. All of the members of the local church flocked to the house across the street. They were so excited about the new young minister.

Mysha saw a few of the girls she’d gone to school with and decided to walk over and talk to them. That’s when she saw him. He was stunning. His golden locks were held in a band at the nape of his neck. He was sweaty from the exertion that it took to help unload the moving van.

Very few things rendered Mysha speechless, but the appearance of her handsome neighbor was one of those events.

“Young Lady, you need to go back to your house. Your kind is not welcomed over here.” Mysha heard the scraggly voice of Mother Thomas, an elder lady from the church.

Mysha turned to face the older lady and was met by the disdain and disgust in her eyes.

The first time it happened, Mysha was hurt. When she moved to town a few years earlier, she actually went to the church. At first the people at the church were friendly, then one day she was going out with her friends and Mother Thomas saw her.

The look the old lady gave her was cold enough to freeze fire. That Sunday, when Mysha decided to go to church, she was invited to the Office of the First Lady of the Church. Apparently Mother Thomas, Mother Williams, and the First Lady of the Church felt the need to share a few home truths with the young lady.

“Well, Mysha, I understand that your mother has not taught you how respectable women dress, but as the head woman in this church I am letting you know that in this church you cannot dress and act like a streetwalker.” The First Lady told her rudely.

Mysha took offense at her harsh tone. “Mistress, I don’t see the need to insult my mother. I feel you are out of line.” Mysha retorted.

“Ahhh!” Mother Thomas gasped. “So rude and with no respect for your elders. You cannot talk to her like that. She is the head woman in this church.”

Mysha then turned on Mother Thomas. “Look, Mother Thomas, she had no right to insult my mother. The same way you don’t have the right to judge me. I thought you were supposed to be Christians. But the way you-“ First Lady cut her off.

“That is enough. If you are not going to be more respectable, I will ask you to leave.” The First Lady interjected.

Mother Williams sat and watched. She didn’t think it was far for these two women to team up on this girl so she decided to try and diffuse the situation.

“First Lady, Mother Thomas, maybe you two should calm down. I’m sure we can all talk about this.” she stated.

Both of the furious n older women turned on her. Mysha at this point had seen enough. She immediately jumped to Mother William’s defense.

“She is a member of your church and because she speaks with reason you attack her. You two women are a set of old hypocritical bitches and I will not come back to this fake ass church.” Mysha emphatically stated.

Mother Williams was hurt, because she didn’t expect her friends to turn on her. She felt that the young girl had been treated unfairly.

Mysha stormed out of the office and left. After she left, First lady apologized to Mother Williams for being short. And then she admonished her for not being willing to do God’s work and stand against evil.

Time passed and the old pastor retired. The church’s affiliation sent in a new young man to run the church.

He sparked Mysha’s interest. He seemed different from the other people in the town. Every morning when Mysha would leave for work, Clay would make sure he spoke and wished her a good day.

Once he realized she worked at the coffee shop, he came by to chat with her every morning. He seemed completely oblivious.
